Well, Mother's Day itself was interesting and a little less than what I expected. But, we did have a great weekend, so I will start there. We headed to Kings Island Friday afternoon with the Polca girls and had a fantastic time. The kids were awesome, the lines were short, and the weather was gorgeous. Friday afternoon was really the perfect time to go!
Morgan loved watching the big coasters as we waited. He kept saying, "Ride 'dat (that)" pointing at the big blue coaster in the background. Not yet, little buddy.
I think these are more your speed...We even split up a couple of times so the big girls and the little ones could ride some things together. One time I took Avery Kate and Morgan to the carousel, which they rode 4 times in a row. This pic is when I told them to smile. I love that they both put their heads to the same side of their pony.
This ride was one of the favorites. It looks so simple. but really does whip them around the corner.
And here are the big girls in front of Snoopy's dog house.
Saturday morning we saw the Polca family again as we both participated in a 5k for the Mason Parks and Recreation Department. They are fundraising to build a new playground and a number of high school groups where I teach were involved in the race. I actually ran the whole 5k, pushing both of them, so I was quite proud with a 30-minute finish. To be honest, I was a bit worried about how well they'd do in the stroller considering I rarely walk or run with them anymore since we've been going to the gym. But they did great, and in fact, loved that I was running. Afterwards they had face painting, cornhole, and some other games for kids and mine actually chose to stay in the stroller for the most part.
The cheerleaders did face painting, but mine opted for a picture on their hand instead. Tessa chose a heart and Morgan chose a football.
In preparation for Disney World, I am trying to have the kids do more walking, so Saturday night the three of us walked to UDF for some ice cream. They did great, though Morgan does not want to hold anyone's hand. He's really getting into the independent mindset.
Both kids had a special mother's day celebration at school, where I was treated to cupcakes, vanilla wafers, and lemonade. Morgan gave me the flowerpot on the left. The orange paper is his hands and the fingerprints on the pot are his fingerprints. Love it! Tessa planted a marigold for me, and decorated the cup.
And Mother's Day itself, well...it started out okay (at 5 a.m when Tessa woke up). I did spinning in the morning while the kids played at the gym daycare. Then we went to church and brunch at Nate's mom and Steve's. And then I took the kids home for Morgan's nap and when the little guy woke up, he had a 101 fever. Lovely. So I had to skip Mother's Day dinner with my parents, siblings and nephew. :(
Instead, I took the kids to my school to do sub plans for today, as I knew I would be staying home with Morgan. By the time he went to bed at 7 he had thrown up twice and his fever had really spiked. He was up from 9-10 or so and I managed to get more meds in him. Surprisingly, he ended up sleeping until 4 this morning and then went back down at 7 (after a bit more vomiting). I took Tessa to school for the day to hopefully avoid her getting the germs. Please say some prayers we end up healthy sooner rather than later and that it doesn't pass around. I have four more days left until Nate gets back from South America and I don't want to spend them in a sick house (or miss four more days of work for that matter...) And, Tessa has her first ever dance recital Wednesday evening.
I'm thinking maybe a mother's day redo next weekend when Nate is back? Maybe sleeping past 5 a.m. and breakfast in bed? Hint, hint!

Happy Belated Mother's Day! Hope that Morgan is feeling better and that you and Tessa have been spared.
